Esztergom is located in Central Danube region, about 75 kms Northwest from Budapest, just next to the Hungarian-Slovak border.

The town of Esztergom is the "capital" of the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary, the seat of Budapest-Esztergom Archbishop. Its famous Basilica is the greatest in whole Hungary ( the second in Budapest, the St Stephen Basilica, and the third is the Basilica in Eger ). This Basilica is also the symbol of the town, and with the Royal Castle dominates the Castle Hill of Esztergom. You can see a very nice religious collection in the Treasury of the Basilica. In its crypt was placed the martyr Cardinal Mindszenty, famous person of tragical events in 1956.

The Royal Castle situated next to the Basilica on the Castle Hill, is from the Árpád era. St Stephen, the first Hungarian king,  and founder of  Christian country was born in the castle built here in 972. In the restaured halls there are exhibitions about the history of the castle.
